A homeowner's guide

Your Restoration Claim, Step by Step

Most restoration projects move through six broad phases, from the first emergency call to the final walkthrough. Use this guide to understand what is happening now, what Restora is handling, and what typically comes next.

Every property, policy, carrier, and claim is different. This educational guide does not guarantee coverage, pricing, timing, or a specific claim outcome. Self-pay projects generally follow the same construction phases without the carrier steps.

From crisis to calm

The restoration claim process

Restora coordinates emergency response, documentation, mitigation, insurance communication, and reconstruction so each phase leads cleanly into the next.

Emergency

Emergency Call & Stabilization

For pipe breaks, standing water, and other urgent losses, call Restora any time, day or night. The first priority is stopping additional damage and making the property safe.

  • Before filing a claim, compare the likely repair cost with your deductible. If the damage is close to or below it, paying out of pocket may make more sense.
  • Restora can provide an early approximation of all-in costs, including contents, mitigation, and reconstruction. The final scope cannot be known until the damage is opened, inspected, and documented.
  • Document everything from day one. Take photos and video before cleanup, and do not discard damaged items until they have been documented.
Mitigation

Inspection & Documentation

Certified technicians map the full extent of the damage, including moisture hidden inside walls, flooring, and insulation.

  • Moisture meters and thermal imaging help locate water that cannot be seen from the surface.
  • Every affected area is photographed and logged. If a claim is filed, this documentation becomes the backbone of the file.
  • Your carrier reviews the source of loss to determine coverage. Restora helps coordinate plumbers, appliance technicians, and other specialists when needed.
Mitigation

Mitigation & Drying

This is the emergency work that stops ongoing damage and returns the structure to verified dry standards. Many projects take three to five days, although conditions vary.

  • Standing water is extracted, and unsalvageable materials such as wet drywall, carpet pad, or insulation are removed when necessary.
  • Dehumidifiers and air movers are placed according to moisture readings and monitored until the structure reaches its drying goals.
  • Daily moisture readings and drying logs are maintained and shared with the adjuster when a claim is open.
  • Safety protocols are based on the source and category of water involved.
  • Drying equipment can be loud, but keeping it running as directed is one of the most helpful things a property owner can do during this phase.
  • After drying, the reconstruction project manager re-inspects the property and finalizes the rebuild scope.
Reconstruction

Estimate & Approval

Reconstruction begins after the scope and price are agreed upon—either with the insurance carrier or directly with you on a self-pay project.

  • Restora prepares the estimate in Xactimate or Symbility, depending on the carrier's preference. Estimates are commonly ready three to five days after the post-mitigation inspection.
  • The adjuster reviews and approves the scope. This often takes one to four weeks and can be the longest wait in the process.
  • Restora's working relationships with Seattle–Tacoma adjuster teams help keep communication and reviews moving.
  • If hidden damage appears during reconstruction, Restora documents it and submits a supplement. You remain included in communication with the carrier.
Reconstruction

Reconstruction

With the scope approved, Restora's licensed construction team rebuilds the property with one project manager guiding the work from start to finish.

  • Once the estimate is approved and funds are issued, a reconstruction contract is completed before work begins.
  • Drywall, flooring, trim, cabinetry, paint, and structural repairs are sequenced so trades can work efficiently.
  • Early material selections help prevent delays. Receipts, product details, or the make and model of existing flooring can make matching easier.
  • Restora's workmanship is backed by a warranty.
Reconstruction

Final Walkthrough & Close-Out

Restora walks the finished work with you and addresses any final details before the project is closed.

  • A punch list captures anything that still needs attention, and each item is resolved before close-out.
  • After the certificate of satisfaction is signed and the punch list is complete, the final payment is remitted.
  • The goal is simple: your property should look and feel as though the damage never happened.
